A 19-year-old died after a violent altercation in Metz, Moselle. The incident occurred on Saturday, May 30, 2026. The young man, who was in a coma, died early on Tuesday, June 2, according to the AFP, citing the prosecutor's office. The victim was allegedly the victim of a homophobic attack, according to friends of the victim interviewed by Mediapart. The incident occurred on Saturday morning. Several friends, including the 19-year-old, were returning from a night out when they crossed paths with three people around 5 am. On the way to pick up their bikes, they crossed paths with another group that had a music speaker. They didn't talk to them, they just danced from a distance, 50 meters away. They took videos of them because they had music, said a witness to Mediapart. It was at that moment that the three individuals approached them and took direct action against the victim, asking them to delete the videos before throwing their phone on the ground. They left and then returned, accusing the young man of stealing their hat. One of them threw him to the ground, he fell, his head cracked on the ground, said one of his friends. His cousin, who was present, tried to intervene, before being hit in the face and losing consciousness. The prosecutor, David Touvet, said that another man of 21 years old had indeed suffered injuries to the face. Before leaving the scene, one of the attackers kicked the victim twice in the back of the head. They returned one last time and made a gesture of contempt by launching homophobic insults.
